Student Services

The Student Services Team caters holistically to the students and their families at the school. Students and their families who may be ‘at risk’ socially, emotionally, academically, medically, financially or with mental-health issues are catered for through appropriate interventions at school and referred to appropriate external agencies to ensure maximum support where possible. The student services team’s role is to also promote an ongoing commitment to mental health and wellbeing of students, staff and families.

Referrals to the Student Services Team are usually facilitated by the classroom teacher who will provide data and background information to express their concerns for the student. The referrals are discussed at our fortnightly meetings where the student will then be referred to the respective member of the student services team for further support.

Parents may also consult with the Deputy Principal at the school if there are concerns around your children’s learning, behaviours or social-emotional wellbeing and appropriate supports and/or suggestions will be offered usually following consultation with the student services team.

The student services team at Boyare comprises of:

• Mrs Alicia Garcia – Deputy Principal
• Mrs Melanie Lander – School Psychologist, who currently works 1 day a week
• Ms Anna Sudintas – Chaplain, who currently works 2 days a week
• Ms Sharla Oxenham – Aboriginal Islander Education Officer, who currently works 3 days a week
• Mrs Elaine Pearson – Special Needs Education Assistant, who works 5 days a week
• Mr Adam Al-Hassany – Ethnic Education Assistant, who works 3 days a week

Our motto ‘Learning Together’ captures the community focus of our school. We are committed to building strong and positive partnerships with parents and local community.

12 Buckets

12 Buckets is a Perth-based charity that strives to equip primary students in need of mentoring with the skills, support and connections to build a strong future.

Through our one-to-one mentoring program, our volunteer mentors, help identify a child’s spark, and then, seek to strengthen and grow that spark to help foster resilience and confidence. The focus of the program is to support the social and emotional wellbeing of these students which can lead to them having better engagement in their learning in the classroom and their connection within the school environment.

In the words of one of their students, Rohit (12), “12 Buckets has changed my life. It has helped me to be who I really am and to feel like I am supposed to be here… where I am.”

The 12 Buckets program focuses on 12 areas deemed important for overall wellbeing. These areas fall under the four categories of belonging, generosity, independence, and mastery. Students are referred to the program by the school staff. 12 Buckets underlying philosophy is that fullness in life comes when you pour yourself out for others.

12 Buckets is a place for connection and a place to be challenged to grow. It is a safe space for kids to take a break, focus on themselves, and begin to realise anything is possible!
