Aboriginal Support

Sharla Oxenham is the AIEO at our school for 3 days a week.

She runs a new program ‘moorditj danjoo’ (strong together) weekly with the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students, where they explore and discuss together ‘What does Aboriginal culture mean to ourselves and our people’. Weekly, Noongar Language lessons occur with Year 5 students as part of their Cultural program.

Sharla supports our Aboriginal students in class for their learning, as well as out of class for their social and emotional wellbeing; she works alongside all staff to provide appropriate cultural awareness and inclusivity.

Sharla works closely with our school chaplain, providing pastoral care to many students and their families. Connection to the community is important which she maintains by keeping good relationships with our Aboriginal families, community members and surrounding schools and agencies.
